How to Obtain a Temporary Food Facility Permit
A temporary food facility permit will be required for food given away or sold to the general public during your event.
It is required that a member of your organization with primary responsibility for the event attend temporary food event office hours detailed below at least five working days (one week) before your event. A temporary food facility permit will be required for food given away or sold to the general public. Failure to obtain any necessary permit by this deadline may result in immediate cancellation of the food-related portion of your event.
EH&S temporary food event office hours are held every Wednesday (during the academic quarter) between 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Student Organizations Leadership and Engagement in Kerckhoff Hall Room 105. The office hours are on a drop-in basis; first come, first serve.
Basic procedure for obtaining a UCLA Temporary Food Facility Permit:
- Obtain the two application forms and review the Guidelines for Food Safety at Temporary Events. They are available online at the EH&S website (Food & Water Safety). Hard copies are available in the Student Organizations Leadership and Engagement (SOLE).
- Please try to have the forms completed before attending office hours. Make sure you provide the name and address of the place(s) from which your group will be obtaining any food and/or ingredients. You must also get your SOLE advisor's signature. Although food permits can be issued without the SOLE advisor’s signature, you must have the SOLE advisor’s signature before the event.
As a reminder, work with EH&S Fire Safety on your fire permit, which is due for application a minimum of 10 working days (2 weeks) before your event. This is needed to cook food or keep food hot.
If your event is private and not open to the general public then a food permit is not necessary. Invited guests do not count as the general public.
If you have any questions after review and following the above procedure you may contact EH&S at (310) 794-5399.
